The Greatest Mystery of All: Part 9; Reuben, and Why He Did Not Remain in the Promised Land

As I prayerfully pondered how Reuben fits into this revelation of coming into the fullness of Christ, and what his role is in helping us cross over to possess our Promised Land, one word came into my mind:
Technology.
(Please keep in mind that with biblical types or allegory, the historical account, which is absolutely true, has beneath it another message that can only be revealed by the Holy Spirit. This other message is often about the end times and contains information that could not have been understood in any other time period.)
Here is what the Bible says that indicates Reuben is a type of technology:
First of all, the name Reuben means “seeing.” In the Bible seeing is correlated with knowledge. According to the book, Dictionary of Correspondences, Reuben in the highest sense means “omniscience.” In a lower sense wisdom, intelligence and science. This definition was written by a man living in the early 19th Century, but in today’s world, wisdom, knowledge and science could represent technology.
Think about how technology has taken over the whole world. Surely something as important as this would be somewhere in the Bible, but it could only be in type because ancient minds could never have grasped things as foreign to them as computers, computer chips, cell phones, airplanes, satellites, etc.
Secondly, the words Jacob spoke over Reuben in Genesis 49 can also indicate this:
Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the firstfruits of my strength, preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. (NEB)
These words spoken about Reuben could well apply to technology because in the world of today, the nation that has the greatest technology is first in might, strength, and power. Unfortunately technology in the hands of evil men is now devoid of dignity (honor). The goal of these evil men is to control the world and become its god.
It would be good to define what technology actually means:
Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life or, as it is sometimes phrased, to the change and manipulation of the human environment.
Technology has done an enormous favor to those of us pressing into the fullness of Christ desiring to possess our Promised Land of the kingdom of God here on earth. The technology that brought about the printing press has made it possible for me to have at my fingertips several Bibles plus books filled with knowledge gained and recorded by Christians who have preceded me. With these books I am even able to study the Bible in its original languages without having to learn these languages.
Due to medical technology I am able to read these books because the cataracts that began to cloud my vision have been removed and new lenses inserted into my eyes. I thank God for this and for many other scientific advantages that have made it possible for me to study and write what you are reading here at this time.
I have time to study and write because I don’t have to go down to the creek and beat out our laundry on the rocks in order to have clean clothes. At mealtime I can take something out of my refrigerator or open a few cans and in a short time make a tasty meal. (Have you ever wondered how long it took in the Bible for the people blessed with visits from the Angel of the Lord to prepare the food offered to him? When the Lord visited Abraham and Sarah, Sarah prepared flour, kneaded dough and baked bread while a servant killed and prepared a calf, and Abraham did what was necessary to provide curds and milk for the heavenly visitors.)
What I ultimately want to reveal throughout this article is why Reuben did not settle in the Promised Land but remained outside on the east side of the Jordan River. In the course of this we will see that the technology that helps us enter into the kingdom of God in this age, will no longer be needed when we come into the fullness of Christ. We won’t be communicating on cell phones during the thousand year reign of Jesus on earth. We won’t be flying on airplanes either, because we will be like Philip when, after baptizing the Ethiopian Eunuch, he found himself immediately in another place. And we will see that technology in the hands of evil men will ultimately destroy all that will not be allowed in God’s kingdom. No matter how bad things may look, in the end it will all work out to fulfill God’s plan for planet earth and for the righteous who will inherit the earth.
Reuben’s Failed Potential
Reuben had the potential as firstborn to do good and help lead his brothers in righteousness, but he wound up committing sin so evil that it caused him to lose his inheritance in the Promised Land. Even so, the great potential for good that technology can provide is being used for the greatest evil of all times. In fact, it is so evil that God will destroy it at his coming. But then, those of us who love and serve God will not need it because God will be our all in all.
If you are not familiar with Reuben’s sin, he committed sexual immorality with one of his father’s wives. The same thing happened in the early Corinthian church where a man was excommunicated from the church for having sex with his father’s wife. Both men intruded into another man’s life, their own father no less, and stole what was to have been his and his alone.
Technology is now being used to steal from people what should be theirs and theirs alone. Evil men are able to send messages into a person’s mind from a great distance. Thanks to Bill Gates, they have plans to force “vaccines” on all of us to destroy the part of our DNA that enables us to have a relationship with God. Their reasoning (from hell) is that they need to calm down religious fanatics to keep them from doing things that these self-acclaimed demigods can’t control.
We should have the right to breathe clean air and grow crops in fertile soil, but for many years technology in the hands of the wicked men who are currently in positions of control are denying the people of the world this right. We see evidence of this every day when we look up at the sky and see the chemtrails crisscrossed over what was once a blue sky and wonder what they are spraying on us today. However, much of the evil is unseen by people who believe everything the media tells them and who trust that our government is good.
Reuben’s Good Intentions
When Joseph’s brothers tried to murder him, Reuben stopped the murder by suggesting they throw the youngster down in a pit. His intentions were to come back later and rescue him, but before he could do so, they had sold Joseph as a slave to a caravan heading for Egypt. Reuben had good intentions but ultimately the evil in his brothers had gotten out of hand and Joseph was gone forever—or so they thought. As we now know, God used the whole situation to get Joseph into Egypt so he could save their whole family, make them into a great nation and ultimately lead them into the Promised Land.
Technology was started with good intentions but has gotten out of hand. At this point it seems the evil ones are presently in control. Satellites circle our earth with the ability to see where we are and what we are doing. They can even see the number on the license plate of our car! Our cell phones that we have come to depend on can tell our enemies where we are at all times and where we have been. These phones can enable wicked men to overhear our conversations even when the phones are turned off. Frequencies that are harmful to human flesh are emitted by these phones such that cancer, especially brain cancer, has been greatly increased. Some cancers have even had the shape of the phone in the exact location where it was held up to the ear of its victim. There have been women who kept their cell phone tucked inside their bra who wound up with cancer in the exact location where the phone had been kept.
And then there is the matter of artificial intelligence (AI) which some fear has the potential to override its human progenitors and destroy the world.
May we all see from the story of Reuben, Joseph and their brothers, as well as many other places in the Bible) that God is ultimately in control and no matter what happens, God has a plan that trumps the Devil’s plans. No matter what we hear in the fake news (and no one really knows what is true or false in regards to mainstream media or even Internet news), we can rest in the surety that our great and mighty Lord Jesus Christ knows it all and has our best interests at heart. And if we are wise, we can see where our focus should be and remain, and that is on our relationship with God.
Only by our strong relationship with God and obedience to him will we be able to survive technology run amuck in these end times. What will technology run amuck look like? Many great prophets such as David Wilkerson, Henry Gruver, and Dumitru Duduman, have seen visions and had angelic visitations revealing that America will be attacked by nuclear bombs. These attacks will occur because of our nation’s rejection of God, our great sins and our refusal to repent.
We are living in the end times. The judgment of God is upon us. It is time for the return of Jesus Christ to earth and we should not be surprised at this judgment because at the time of the return of Jesus Christ, everything will be judged.
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. (Mal 4:1,2, KJV)
Those who have rejected and opposed Jesus and his goodness and truth, will die physically and spiritually, but those of us who love Jesus and his truth and goodness, will be changed and raised up into a spiritual house filled with the glorious presence of God. We can read about this in Isaiah 2 as well as many other places in Scripture.
Isaiah 2
The first few verses of Isaiah 2 describe what the earth will be like when God’s kingdom is established upon the earth and Jesus is ruling the nations:
…They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore. (Isa 2:4, NKJV)
What a glorious day that will be! After giving us a little preview of what life will be like after the Lord’s return, he then describes some of the sins of God’s people that will lead to God’s judgment before his kingdom can come fully on earth:
Come, descendants of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the LORD!
For the LORD has rejected his people,
the descendants of Jacob,
because they have filled their land with practices from the East
and with sorcerers, as the Philistines do.
They have made alliances with pagans. (Isa 2:5, NLT)
The next few verses describe what I believe to be our Western civilization, especially America. My comments will be in parentheses:
Their land is full of silver and gold,
with no limit to their treasures; (Has there ever been a nation as blessed with material things as America?)
their land is full of horses,
with no limit to their chariots. (Automobiles and massive traffic jams have become a way of life in our nation.)
Their land is full of idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands, (Television anyone?)
to what their fingers have made. (Cell phones in everyone’s fingers—even babies play with them! Isa 2:7,8, BSB)
The following verses describe what is going to happen to idolaters, even to whole nations:
Go into the rocks and hide in the dust
from the terror of the LORD and the splendor of His majesty.
The proud look of man will be humbled, and the loftiness of men brought low;
the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. For the Day of the LORD of Hosts
will come against all the proud and lofty, against all that is exalted—
it will be humbled… (Isa 2:10-12)
So the pride of man will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled;
the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, and the idols will vanish completely.
Men will flee to caves in the rocks and holes in the ground,
away from the terror of the LORD and from the splendor of His majesty,
when He rises to shake the earth.
In that day men will cast away to the moles and bats
their idols of silver and gold—the idols they made to worship.
They will flee to caverns in the rocks and crevices in the cliffs,
away from the terror of the LORD and from the splendor of His majesty,
when He rises to shake the earth. (Isa 2:17-21, BSB)
Doesn’t this sound like a response to nuclear war?
Before writing any further on this subject of nuclear war, I want to explain the difficult decision I had to make on whether or not to write this. I had decided I would delete what I had written on Isaiah 2 and skip this terrifying subject because it might frighten too many people and some would think I was crazy. Immediately after having this thought, the Lord strongly urged me to keep what I had written on Isaiah 2 and add Psalm 11 to it.
An hour later I saw that Pastor Dana Coverstone had posted his latest dream, “The Fire Tower Dream,” and as I listened to it, I was astounded at how strongly it suggested nuclear war. In the dream, people who had ignored Jesus were shunning all warnings and running into fires where they were burned alive. Then Dana expounded on the dream urgently imploring anyone listening to warn people around them, especially lukewarm Christians, about their need to seek Jesus and his Word, and that God was their only protection from the horrendous and immanent disasters soon to engulf our nation.
The next day at church, even before we got into worship, a powerful word from the Lord boomed out from our church prophet with the words, “Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” This prophecy hasn’t been transcribed yet so I don’t remember all the words, but the message was that we are to warn everyone to wake up and see the disasters looming upon us. There is no time to waste. Warn them! Warn them! Warn them! I don’t have the words to describe the urgency of this message and the shortness of time it indicated.
Second Peter describes what it will be like if nuclear war does occur:
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
People who understand the depths of sin and degradation this world has fallen into and who understand the dangers of technology are searching for ways to survive. Warnings go out over the Internet that one should store enough food for at least two years because of the coming food shortages. We are warned that massive inflation will soon destroy the value of our dollar so we need to stock up on necessities that we won’t be able to afford or that may not even be available.
However, here in our Bible Peter is telling us the most important thing we can do, and that is to live in holy conduct and godliness. In order to live this way we must draw close to God. We must cling to the Lord Jesus Christ and he will see us through. You see, Dear Ones, we are to MOVE FROM THE AGE OF TECHNOLOGY INTO THE KINGDOM AGE OF MIRACLES. But before we move to the subject of miracles, I want to add one more thing about the end of this current age. Psalm 11 is not long but it sums up most of what I have been saying about God’s judgment of the wicked and blessing of the righteous.
Psalm 11 (NKJV)
In the Lord I put my trust;
How can you say to my soul,
“Flee as a bird to your mountain!”
Here we see that David in this Psalm, as representative of all of us who have put our trust in God, marvels that anyone would suggest that rather than stand his ground trusting in the Lord, he should try to flee to some mountain. He realizes the dangers all around him and he knows that only God can see him through:
For look! The wicked bend their bow,
They make ready their arrow on the string,
That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
If the foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?
It seems the wicked are always trying to destroy the good of this world. They have their weapons aimed at innocent people who don’t know what is going on because most of these assaults are done in secret. In the world of today, people have put their trust in their governments and the media to tell them the truth and protect them when in all actuality these institutions have their arrows of destruction aimed at them. Arrows like Covid, polluted vaccines, chemtrails, polluted food and water, contrived useless wars, and all manner of lies and deadly deceptions.
The very foundations of society and life itself are under siege—foundations such as marriage and family, the church, education, moral government and even the most fundamental identity factor of all—our gender. Even the fact that human beings are made in the image of God not just another species in the animal kingdom is being challenged. Who would have ever dreamed in their wildest imaginations that children would be encouraged to change their sex from male to female or vice versa if they chose to do so?
Have you heard of the furries? This term refers to children in our schools who decide they are not human but they are an animal such as a cat or a dog. They are free to not participate in gym class or any other class. They can sit on the floor rather than a desk, walk on all fours, make animal sounds and lick their “paws.” Even liter boxes are put out in the hallway where these children can relieve themselves like an animal. Other children are forbidden to make fun of them or take pictures of them.
If the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do? We can look to God.
The Lord is in His holy temple,
The Lord’s throne is in heaven;
His eyes behold,
His eyelids test the sons of men.
The Lord tests the righteous,
We must remember that God sees everything and he will forever be holy and righteous. He is testing humanity to see just how far their wickedness can go and just how much the righteous will permit these things to take place before they take some kind of action to either stop it, if possible, or make decisions to protect themselves and their families. Many parents are willing to make drastic changes in their lifestyles by pulling their children out of public schools and homeschooling even if it means having far less income. Other parents just can’t afford to do so and are going after their school boards insisting on a return to some kind of sanity. Parents who make objections to their school boards are sometimes threatened and accused of being terrorists. Has the world gone crazy or what?
But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
Upon the wicked He will rain coals;
Fire and brimstone and a burning wind
Shall be the portion of their cup.
It is likely that the Lord will judge these heinous sins with the ultimate of destruction similar to what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. Several times I have heard people say that surely the wickedness we see all around us has to be worse than it was before Noah’s flood or before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. To put it bluntly, this description in Psalm 11 appears to be like the results from the detonation of a nuclear bomb. From the little research I’ve done on this subject, I’ve read that the burning wind from the blast kills more people than anything including the explosions or fires.
In contemplating the possibility of such a disaster, we need to remember that this would be as the days of Noah and the days of Lot in that the righteous were delivered and protected from these deadly judgments:
For the righteous LORD loves justice. The virtuous will see his face. (NLT)
Seeing the face of God means different things to different people, but whatever it turns out to be, it will be fantastic and worth everything we have had to endure in order to come to this place in God.
The Coming Kingdom Age of Miracles
Since none of us have ever been in this age, all we can deduce about it is from the miracles we have read about in the Bible and from our own meditations on the Word. Also I don’t want to leave out personal words from God and words from his true prophets.
To start with, Jesus said in John 14:12 that we would do the works he did and even greater works. This means we will heal the sick, cast out demons, multiply the food, raise the dead, etc. One may wonder, if Jesus returns and the wicked are destroyed, who will be left that would need to have demons cast out of them or who would still be sick? The answer is that true believers will be in different stages of maturity in Christ. Some will have entered into his fullness and will minister even as he did. Others will not be there yet but will be seeking to know God and draw near to him.
Sin and sickness will not disappear from everyone all at the same time. Those who are in the fullness of God got there over years of struggle and seeking God. Those who have not arrived in that fullness yet still have a process to go through. I believe these will come into the fullness quicker because of the great ministries that will be available to them. Also, the power of the Devil manifested in his human cohorts will no longer exist because these people will have been destroyed in the great end-time judgment and the Devil will have been bound.
Some people who have had near death experiences (NDEs) say that in the realm they were permitted to enter briefly, all one had to do was think about being somewhere and they would immediately be there. Or they might think of a loved one who had passed, and immediately that person was there with them. Perhaps it will be something like that. Also the curse of old age and its weakness will be lifted off us such that those in their later years will become younger.
These are just a few of my thoughts about this. Whatever the age of miracles will be, we can rest assured that it will be worth all we have to endure in order to be part of God’s kingdom on earth. Just the nearness of his presence will be joy inexpressible. May Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians be ours also:
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
